DFSG Assistant LLM REVIEW 0 blocker, 0 important, 1 minor

This is an LLM based review using a Debian Inference based workflow. It was not written by a member of the DFSG team and has not been checked by one. It is not a decision on the package: it may be wrong, and it may have missed things.

DFSG NEW review for gmpfrxx-mkii version 1.5.0+ds-1

Summary

  • Licensing is DFSG-compliant and debian/copyright is accurate: Yes
  • Packaging is of good quality: Yes
  • Issues: 0 blocker, 0 important, 1 minor
  • debian/watch: version 5
  • debian/copyright: machine-readable
  • Scan before the review: 1 found

Licensing

All upstream source is 2026 copyright by Maho NAKATA under BSD-2-Clause, with the six QD adapter headers (ds/edd/qs/single/td/ts_real.hpp) explicitly BSD-3-Clause via SPDX. The catch-all Files: * (BSD-2-Clause) plus the BSD-3-Clause adapters stanza correctly cover the tree; dd_real.hpp and qd_real.hpp are BSD-2 (no SPDX but a plain 2-clause header) and correctly fall under the catch-all, and qd_complex.hpp (no notice) is reasonably assigned BSD-2-Clause by the catch-all. No non-free terms anywhere. The only generated document, the manual PDF, has its LaTeX source in-tree and is not installed. Reference tarball contents are excluded via Files-Excluded: reference/upstream/*.

Packaging

Clean, modern packaging: debhelper compat 14, dh with cmake buildsystem, hardening enabled, three-part component split (header-only -dev plus a sonamed runtime for the compiled default-context provider), proper symbols file, Vcs-* fields, salsa-ci, a functional autopkgtest exercising the installed cmake export, and Standards-Version: 4.7.4 matching current Policy 4.7.4.1. Relationship substvars are omitted from control but dh_gencontrol adds them at compat 14, so the runtime package lacking a Depends field is correct. The Rdot.hpp benchmark files derive from mplapack but carry the same author (Nakata, Maho), covered by the copyright stanzas.

Issues

1. [minor] [packaging] -dev package installs QD adapter headers without depending on libqd-dev

  • Files: debian/control (Package: libgmpfrxx-mkii-dev), include/gmpfrxx_mkII/adapters/*.hpp
  • Basis: checked, in the package or with a reference tool
  • Evidence: usr/include/gmpfrxx_mkII/ (installed by libgmpfrxx-mkii-dev.install) includes adapters that #include <qd/qd_real.h>, <qd/dd_real.h>, <qd/ds_real.h> etc.; the -dev Depends list only libgmp-dev, libmpc-dev, libmpfr-dev and the runtime. libqd-dev (2.3.23+dfsg.1-2) exists in the archive.
  • Problem: A consumer who includes the shipped QD adapter headers (a documented feature) needs the qd headers, which are not declared, so their build fails unless they add libqd-dev themselves.
  • Fix: Add libqd-dev to the -dev package Depends (or otherwise declare the optional QD adapter header dependency).

Verified

  • LICENSE and all grep'd copyright/SPDX evidence across the tree are 2026 Maho NAKATA, BSD-2-Clause or BSD-3-Clause; no GPL/LGPL/Apache/MPL/CC or non-commercial/no-modification wording found.
  • manual/gmpfrxx_mkII_manual.pdf: generated but its LaTeX source manual/gmpfrxx_mkII_manual.tex is in-tree and the PDF is not installed in any binary; not an issue.
  • benchmarks/gmp/00_Rdot/Rdot.hpp and benchmarks/mpfr/00_Rdot/Rdot.hpp: copyright 'Nakata, Maho' (2008-2021, from mplapack) is the same author as the declared 'Maho NAKATA' in the Files: * stanza; license is BSD-2-Clause matching it.
  • reference/ directory is empty after Files-Excluded removal; no upstream vines/benchmark third-party code ships.
  • debhelper compat 14 confirmed: dh_gencontrol auto-applies relationship substvars, so the runtime package needing no explicit Depends is correct.
  • Standards-Version 4.7.4 matches current Policy 4.7.4.1; build deps (debhelper-compat, cmake, libgmp/libmpc/libmpfr-dev) suffice for the GMP/MPFR/MPC build with DEPS_AUTO_FETCH=OFF; QD tests are skipped when qd is absent so no missing BD.
  • QD adapter tests in tests/CMakeLists.txt are guarded by GMPFRXX_MKII_TEST_QD_FOUND so the optional qd does not gate the build.
  • uscan found the packaged version as the newest upstream release (upstream 1.5.0, packaged 1.5.0+ds).
