DFSG NEW review for ocaml-out-channel-redirect version 0.2-1

Summary

  • Licensing is DFSG-compliant and debian/copyright is accurate: Yes
  • Packaging is of good quality: Yes
  • Issues: 0 blocker, 0 important, 0 minor
  • debian/watch: version 5
  • debian/copyright: machine-readable
  • Scan before the review: nothing found

Licensing

The whole upstream tree is MIT: LICENSE names Hugo Heuzard (2024) and every source file is original to the project, with no per-file notices of another licence. debian/copyright is DEP-5, has a Files: * catch-all and a debian/* stanza, and reproduces the full MIT text, so every file and holder is covered. No non-free terms, generated binaries or unclear-provenance assets were found.

Packaging

Modern, conventional OCaml team packaging: debhelper compat 14, dh-ocaml 3.8 with the dune buildsystem and dune layout (debian/dh-ocaml.conf.json, debian/debian-dune), a standard -dev/runtime split with ${ocaml:} and ${shlibs:} substvars, 3.0 (quilt) source with no patches, current Standards-Version 4.7.4 and Vcs-* fields. The only observation is that the test suite is switched off in debian/rules and no autopkgtest is shipped, which is a quality choice rather than a defect.

Issues

None.

Verified

  • The prescan (dfsg-author-check) listed no file: it found only two holders, both already named in debian/copyright (Hugo Heuzard for upstream, Stéphane Glondu for debian/*).
  • LICENSE is the MIT text with Copyright (c) 2024 Hugo Heuzard; dune-project and out-channel-redirect.opam declare the same author and license: MIT, and debian/copyright's stand-alone MIT paragraph matches the LICENSE wording.
  • All upstream sources were read or sampled: src/out_channel_redirect.ml, src/out_channel_redirect.mli, src/out_channel_redirect_stubs.c, src/runtime.js, src/runtime.wat, test/basic.ml (first 43 of 312 lines), test/out_channel_redirect_test_helper.ml, test/out_channel_redirect_test_stubs.c, test/runtime.js, test/runtime.wat, README.md, CHANGES.md, dune-project, out-channel-redirect.opam, .gitignore, .ocamlformat, .github/workflows/build.yml and changelog.yml. None carries a separate copyright or licence notice.
  • src/runtime.js, src/runtime.wat and test/runtime.js, test/runtime.wat are hand-written js_of_ocaml/wasm_of_ocaml runtime sources registered as javascript_files/wasm_files in the dune files, not built or minified artefacts.
  • src/out_channel_redirect_stubs.c carries the comment /* duplicated from caml/sys.h and io.c */ but only re-declares caml_channel_descriptor and caml_sys_error and a NO_ARG macro, i.e. interface declarations rather than copied implementation, so MIT coverage of the file is not misleading.
  • All paths in the tree are matched by Files: * (MIT), with debian/* overridden by the later stanza (MIT, 2026, Stéphane Glondu); the file format is the current DEP-5 URL and no Files-Excluded is needed since the orig tarball contents and the unpacked tree agree.
  • No patches exist (no debian/patches, debian/source/format is 3.0 (quilt) without one); debian/control Build-Depends (debhelper-compat 14, ocaml, ocaml-dune 3.24.1 in the archive, dh-ocaml 3.8) are satisfiable, and ${ocaml:Depends}/${ocaml:Provides} from dh_ocaml correctly supply the -dev to runtime dependency as in libyojson-ocaml-dev.
  • debian/rules uses dh $@ --with ocaml --buildsystem ocaml_dune with debian/debian-dune and debian/dh-ocaml.conf.json (dune_layout_version: 1, dh_ocamllibinstall: true), which matches the ocaml_dune buildsystem shipped in dh-ocaml 3.8.
  • override_dh_auto_test disables the test suite with the comment # needs js_of_ocaml, which involves a dependency cycle; no debian/tests/control is shipped. This is noted as a coverage choice, not reported as a fault: the library still builds and the packaging is otherwise complete.
  • debian/copyright is already machine-readable (DEP-5), so no replacement file is proposed.
  • uscan found the packaged version as the newest upstream release (upstream 0.2, packaged 0.2).
