DFSG Assistant LLM REVIEW 1 blocker, 1 important, 4 minor
This is an LLM based review using a Debian Inference based workflow. It was not written by a member of the DFSG team and has not been checked by one. It is not a decision on the package: it may be wrong, and it may have missed things.

DFSG NEW review for plasma-union version 6.7.4-1
Summary
- Licensing is DFSG-compliant and
debian/copyrightis accurate: No - Packaging is of good quality: No
- Issues: 1 blocker, 1 important, 4 minor
- debian/watch: version 5
- debian/copyright: machine-readable
- Scan before the review: nothing found
Licensing
The code itself is DFSG-free: everything is under LGPL-2.1/3.0 (with the KDE accepted-LGPL option), LGPL-2.0-or-later, LGPL-3.0/GPL-2.0/GPL-3.0, BSD-2-Clause, MIT or CC0-1.0, all compatible. debian/copyright is DEP-5 and includes all required licence texts, but it does not describe all files correctly: a group of BSD-2-Clause files (four READMEs, four *.license sidecars, Union.json and 15 autotest JSON files) and CC0-1.0 REUSE.toml are all left to the Files: * LGPL stanza. It also names Ubuntu's Kubuntu Developers as Upstream-Contact for a KDE project.
Packaging
The packaging is mostly sound (compat 14, dh sequences, correct Standards-Version, valid changelog), but debian/rules removes the installed development files using a hard-coded x86_64-linux-gnu path, so on every other architecture the CMake config files stay in the binary package. Four Build-Depends exist only for the disabled PlasmaSVG input, tests are switched off with no autopkgtest, and the runtime Depends names the cssparser CLI package rather than relying on the generated library dependency.
Issues
blocker licensing 1. debian/copyright mislicenses REUSE-annotated BSD-2 and CC0 files as LGPL ◂
- Files:
debian/copyright:6-13,REUSE.toml:5-9,REUSE.toml:12-15,REUSE.toml:22-33,README.md,examples/snippets/README.md,examples/widgetsgallery/README.md,src/input/plasmasvg/definitions/README.md,src/input/css/metadata.json.license,src/input/plasmasvg/metadata.json.license,src/platform/kcolorschemeprovider/kcolorschemeprovider.json.license,src/platform/plasma/metadata.json.license,src/output/qtwidgets/Union.json,autotests/TestSelectorData/*.json,autotests/output/quick/TestPositionerLayoutData/*.json,src/input/css/metadata.json.license - Basis: checked, in the package or with a reference tool
- Evidence:
Files: */License: LGPL-2.1-only OR LGPL-3.0-only OR LicenseRef-KDE-Accepted-LGPL, againstREUSE.toml:path = "**/README.md"/SPDX-License-Identifier = "BSD-2-Clause",path = "autotests/TestSelectorData/*.json",path = "src/output/qtwidgets/Union.json", andREUSE.toml:1# SPDX-License-Identifier: CC0-1.0; sidecars such assrc/input/css/metadata.json.license:1saySPDX-License-Identifier: BSD-2-Clause. - Problem: Where a file carries its own SPDX tag (or a REUSE annotation) that differs from the catch-all stanza, debian/copyright states the wrong licence for it. The four READMEs (including the root one), the four generated-metadata sidecars,
src/output/qtwidgets/Union.json(compiled into the Qt Widgets plugin via Q_PLUGIN_METADATA) and the 15 autotests JSON files are BSD-2-Clause, not LGPL;REUSE.tomlitself is CC0-1.0 and its header even saysSPDX-FileCopyrightText: None, while the CC0 stanza and Files: * attribute copyright to Akseli Lahtinen, Volker Krause and others. Contrast, for example,src/output/qtquick/style/RadioDelegate.qml, whose LGPL license is correctly left to Files: *. - Fix: Add these paths to the BSD-2-Clause stanza (with the Arjen Hiemstra/Joshua Goins holders from REUSE.toml) and add
REUSE.tomlto the CC0-1.0 stanza, removing the copyright holders that those files do not claim; or generate the stanzas from the REUSE annotations.
important packaging 2. Development files are only removed on amd64 ◂
- Files:
debian/rules:16,debian/control:32 - Basis: checked, in the package or with a reference tool
- Evidence:
rm -rf debian/kde-style-union/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/cmake/while the package isArchitecture: any. - Problem: KDE_INSTALL_CMAKEPACKAGEDIR is
/usr/lib/<DEB_HOST_MULTIARCH>/cmake, so on arm64, i386, ppc64el etc. this rm matches nothing: those packages ship UnionConfig.cmake/UnionTargets.cmake and the exported target while the headers andlibUnion.sosymlink have been removed, leaving broken development files in the binary package. - Fix: Use a multiarch glob as for the other two removals (
rm -rf debian/kde-style-union/usr/lib/*/cmake), or exclude the files via dh_install/-DBUILD_...options instead of a literal path.
minor licensing 3. Upstream-Contact names Ubuntu's Kubuntu Developers for a KDE project ◂
- Files:
debian/copyright:3 - Basis: checked, in the package or with a reference tool
- Evidence:
Upstream-Contact: Kubuntu Developers <kubuntu-devel@lists.ubuntu.com>whileSource: https://invent.kde.org/plasma/unionanddebian/upstream/metadatagivesContact: plasma-devel@kde.org. - Problem: The contact was evidently copied from Ubuntu packaging and is not the upstream contact for this KDE project; the field is inaccurate.
- Fix: Set Upstream-Contact to the KDE maintainers, e.g.
plasma-devel@kde.org, matching debian/upstream/metadata.
minor packaging 4. Build-Depends for the disabled PlasmaSVG input are unused ◂
- Files:
debian/control:13,debian/control:20-21,debian/control:25,debian/rules:10 - Basis: checked, in the package or with a reference tool
- Evidence:
dh_auto_configure -- ... -DBUILD_INPUT_PLASMASVG=OFFand top-level CMakeLists.txt putsKF6Archive,Plasma,rymlandQt6Svgonly behindif (BUILD_INPUT_PLASMASVG). - Problem: libkf6archive-dev, libplasma-dev, libryml-dev and qt6-svg-dev are installed for every build but cannot be used with the options debian/rules passes; unnecessary build dependencies are a real cost in archive rebuilds and in testing migration.
- Fix: Remove those four Build-Depends, or drop
-DBUILD_INPUT_PLASMASVG=OFFand actually build the PlasmaSVG input.
minor packaging 5. Runtime Depends names the cssparser CLI package, not the library ◂
- Files:
debian/control:33,src/input/css/CMakeLists.txt:15 - Basis: checked, in the package or with a reference tool
- Evidence:
Depends: cxx-rust-cssparser-parse; the plugin doestarget_link_libraries(union-input-css input CSS ... cxx-rust-cssparser), and apt-cache showscxx-rust-cssparser-parseis the 51 kB binary of the source whilelibcxx-rust-cssparser1is the library. - Problem: The shared-library dependency is generated automatically by dh_shlibdeps (compat 14 adds ${shlibs:Depends} itself), so the explicit dependency only pulls in an additional command-line program that the package does not use.
- Fix: Drop
cxx-rust-cssparser-parse(keep the generated shlibs dependency), or if some runtime helper really is invoked, document it in a comment.
minor packaging 6. Upstream tests are disabled and there is no autopkgtest ◂
- Files:
debian/rules:10,debian/ - Basis: checked, in the package or with a reference tool
- Evidence:
-DBUILD_TESTING=OFF; upstream hasautotests/(TestColor, TestSelector, TestStyle, property tests) and there is nodebian/tests/. - Problem: A new package ships with no automated verification at all, so regressions in the style engine and QML output are not caught by the archive's test infrastructure.
- Fix: Build the tests by adding qt6-declarative-dev-tools/Qt6Test build deps and a
debian/tests/controlthat runsdh_auto_testoutput or ctest under autopkgtest; at minimum add a smoke autopkgtest.
Verified ◂
- Read all of debian/: control, copyright (DEP-5 1.0 format with a correct Format line), rules, changelog, source/format (3.0 quilt, no patches), kde-style-union.lintian-overrides and upstream/metadata; there are no maintainer scripts, .install/.links/.dirs files, patches or debian/tests.
- Inventoried the 418 upstream files and collected every SPDX-License-Identifier: the only licences are LGPL-2.1-only/LGPL-3.0-only/LicenseRef-KDE-Accepted-LGPL, LGPL-3.0-only/GPL-2.0-only/GPL-3.0-only, LGPL-2.0-or-later, BSD-2-Clause, MIT and CC0-1.0. All are free and mutually compatible; no non-commercial, no-modification or other non-free wording exists.
- The MIT stanza correctly covers src/output/qtquick/plugin/shaders/sdf.glsl (Inigo Quilez, Arjen Hiemstra) and src/output/qtwidgets/union.themerc, and the LGPL-2.0-or-later stanza exactly matches the 12 files carrying that identifier.
- No built artefacts: no .so/.a/.jar/.class/.pyc/firmware/PDF and no raster images; the only images are the two source SVGs under src/input/css/styles/breeze/images/. src/input/css/defaults/generated-properties.css is generated, but its inputs (tools/propertygenerator/properties.css.j2 and generate_properties.py) are present and it carries a licence header.
- Prescan authors 'None' and '= "None': these are
SPDX-FileCopyrightText: Noneplaceholder lines in CC0 files (REUSE.toml:2 and :19, .kde-ci.yml:2, metainfo.yaml:2, .gitignore:2, tools/propertygenerator/pyproject.toml:2 and uv.lock:2). They are not missing copyright holders; the mismatch is that debian/copyright attributes holders to these files, reported above. - Every copyright holder named in file headers for each stanza (checked against the LGPL-2.0-or-later files in full, and via the prescan's 21-name comparison for the rest) is represented in debian/copyright.
- Standards-Version 4.7.4 matches current Policy 4.7.4.1 (first two components).
- Build-Depends checked against the archive: breeze-dev 4:6.7.4-1, libcxx-rust-cssparser-dev 1.1.0-1, libplasma-dev 6.7.4-2 and libryml-dev 0.16.0 exist; dh-sequence-single-binary is provided by debhelper 14.5, and dh-sequence-kf6/dh-sequence-plasma by pkg-kde-tools. At compat 14 the missing ${misc:Depends}/${shlibs:Depends} in debian/control is not a fault.
- With dh-sequence-single-binary, dh_auto_install installs directly into debian/kde-style-union (verified from the dh_auto_install manual page), so the removals in execute_after_dh_auto_install do run on the package directory.
- uscan found upstream releases with
debian/watch; a newer upstream version is available (upstream6.8.0, packaged6.7.4), which is not a fault of the package. - Every pointer of
debian/copyrightto /usr/share/common-licenses names a file that is there (CC0-1.0,GPL-2,GPL-3,LGPL-2,LGPL-2.1,LGPL-3).
Not confirmed ◂
- Whether cxx-rust-cssparser-parse contains anything the plugin loads at runtime; its control fields (51 kB, depends on libcxx-rust-cssparser1) indicate a standalone command-line program, which is why the dependency is reported only as minor.
- The package was not built or tested; whether the cmake files left on non-amd64 would break a consumer's build is inferred from the exported targets, not observed.
- Whether pkg-kde-tools' dh-sequence-kf6 pulls in extra-cmake-modules needed by find_package(ECM); package contents could not be listed with the available tools.
