qoriq-rcw 1.2.0-1
Package Information
| Description | QorIQ Reset Configuration Word compiler (CLI) qoriq-rcw compiles RCW source files into PBL/RCW binary images for NXP QorIQ and Layerscape SoCs that use PBI format 2 (LS1028, LS1088, LS2088, LX2160 families) and decompiles binary images back to RCW source text. It is built on top of libqoriq-rcw. The CLI also checks an image the way the BootROM would do before it is flashed (--check), reads the live RCW snapshot from /dev/mem on a running QorIQ/Layerscape board (--dump) or the RCW and PBI commands from its boot flash (--dump-flash), runs sanity checks, and emits a recompilable .rcw file. Install qoriq-rcw-data to use the dump modes (and decompiled output) without --rcwi/-I flags. Run --check on an image before flashing it: an image the Service Processor's BootROM rejects could leave the board silent after a reboot. |

DFSG Assistant LLM REVIEW 0 blocker, 0 important, 0 minor
This is an LLM based review using a Debian Inference based workflow. It was not written by a member of the DFSG team and has not been checked by one. It is not a decision on the package: it may be wrong, and it may have missed things.

DFSG NEW review for qoriq-rcw version 1.2.0-1
Summary
- Licensing is DFSG-compliant and
debian/copyrightis accurate: Yes - Packaging is of good quality: Yes
- Issues: 0 blocker, 0 important, 0 minor
- debian/watch: version 5
- debian/copyright: machine-readable
- Scan before the review: nothing found
Licensing
Everything in the tree is BSD-3-Clause, with no non-free terms: the source, tests, man page source, README, LICENSE and packaging all carry SPDX-License-Identifier: BSD-3-Clause and Copyright 2026 Free Mobile - Vincent Jardin, and the five vendored files under data/ (ls1028a.rcwi, ls1088a.rcwi, ls2088a.rcwi, lx2160a.rcwi, data/LICENSE.upstream) carry the Freescale/NXP BSD-3-Clause notice. debian/copyright is DEP-5 and names all three holders in the right stanzas, the whole BSD-3-Clause text is reproduced (no /usr/share/common-licenses reference needed), and no file is left out: the .rcwi files and LICENSE.upstream are matched by their own Files stanza and everything else by Files: *. The NXP data is the only third-party code and is under the same licence, so there is no compatibility problem.
Packaging
A clean first upload. debhelper compat 14 with dh $@ --buildsystem=meson, hardening +all, a sensible two-package split (arch:any CLI plus arch:all Multi-Arch: foreign data package, linked with Recommends), unit tests actually run at build (--suite unit, the cross-validation suite, which needs an external clone, is not), and an autopkgtest that round-trips a real rcw through the installed binary and the installed .rcwi. DEP-5 copyright, Standards-Version: 4.7.4 against Policy 4.7.4.1, changelog closing the ITP with a correct version and distribution, Vcs-* and upstream metadata present. Build-Depends match what meson looks for (libqoriq-rcw-dev (>= 1.4.0) exists as 1.4.0-1, and it pulls in libmcpp-dev), and nocheck is honoured both by disabling the meson tests option and by dh skipping the dh_auto_test override.
Issues
None.
Verified
- Coverage: all 34 upstream files were opened or grepped (src/ 13, tests/ 8, man/qoriq-rcw.1.md, data/ 7, .github/workflows/ci.yml, LICENSE, README.md, meson.build, meson_options.txt), plus every file under debian/ except debian/watch (out of scope).
- Prescan entries
data/ls1028a.rcwi:3,data/ls1088a.rcwi:3,data/ls2088a.rcwi:3,data/lx2160a.rcwi:3: line 3 is/* Copyright 2017-2020 NXP */; the scanner attached line 4, the provenance comment/* Vendored from nxp-qoriq/rcw: ls1028asi/ls1028a.rcwi */, to it. No holder is missing: theFiles: data/*.rcwi data/LICENSE.upstreamstanza names2011-2016 Freescale Semiconductor, Inc.and2017-2020 NXP, and line 1 of each file is the SPDX tag. Free Mobile - Vincent Jardin(LICENSE:1, data/lx2160a_regs.rcw:3, src/flash_db.c:3, all other source/tests/man/debian files) is the same holder asFree Mobile -- Vincent JardininFiles: *; only the dash style differs, so the "possibly named" match is correct.data/LICENSE.upstreamis NXP's BSD-3-Clause: same three conditions, withTHE REGENTSwhere Debian's text saysTHE COPYRIGHT HOLDERS; the stanza's Comment records that the texts differ only in wording, so the singleBSD-3-Clauseshort name is accurate.- No built artefacts in the tree: the
data/*.rcwanddata/*.rcwifiles are plain-text bitfield/register definitions, and the man page's sourceman/qoriq-rcw.1.mdis shipped (pandoc runs at build time), so nothing lacks its preferred form for modification. - No third-party code or embedded library: src/ is a C implementation by the maintainer; the only vendored material is the NXP rcw data under data/, already under BSD-3-Clause and not shipped by any other Debian package.
- License headers are on every C/H/.sh/.md/*.yml file;
meson.build,meson_options.txt,README.mdanddata/README.mdcarry no per-file notice but are covered by the top-levelLICENSEand theFiles: *stanza. - The orig tarball (
vjardin-qoriq-rcw-f74d8cb/) contains adebian/directory with upstream's older copy of the packaging; dpkg-source(1), format 3.0 (quilt), removes any pre-existing debian directory before extracting the debian tarball, so it does not reach the source package or the build. - The two .install files cover everything meson installs (
usr/bin/qoriq-rcw,usr/share/man/man1/qoriq-rcw.1,usr/share/qoriq-rcw/*.rcwiand*.rcw), sodh_missing --fail-missingat compat 14 finds nothing uninstalled. - Build-time tests are the meson
unitsuite viadh_auto_test -- --suite unit;tests/meson.buildregisters each test withsuite : 'unit', and the cross-validation test (needs a clone of nxp-qoriq/rcw) is registered under a different suite and is not run. debian/tests/roundtrip exercises compile,--check, decompile and recompile against the installed/usr/share/qoriq-rcw/lx2160a.rcwi. - apt-cache:
libqoriq-rcw-dev1.4.0-1 is in the archive (Depends: libqoriq-rcw1, libmcpp-dev), matching the(>= 1.4.0)Build-Depends and meson'sdependency('libqoriq-rcw', version : '>= 1.4.0');libmcpp-dev2.7.2-5.3 exists too, pulled in transitively, so no direct Build-Depends is needed. Standards-Version: 4.7.4is current: the reviewing system's Policy is 4.7.4.1 (xd://policy), same first two components.- debian/rules honours
nocheck(passes-Dtests=disabled, and at compat 14 dh skips thedh_auto_testoverride), andlibcmocka-dev <!nocheck>matches that. - uscan found the packaged version as the newest upstream release (upstream
1.2.0, packaged1.2.0).
