DFSG Assistant LLM REVIEW 0 blocker, 0 important, 0 minor
This is an LLM based review using a Debian Inference based workflow. It was not written by a member of the DFSG team and has not been checked by one. It is not a decision on the package: it may be wrong, and it may have missed things.

Report
DFSG NEW review for rust-async-utility version 0.3.2-1
Summary
- Licensing is DFSG-compliant and
debian/copyrightis accurate: Yes - Packaging is of good quality: Yes
- Issues: 0 blocker, 0 important, 0 minor
- debian/watch: version 5
- debian/copyright: machine-readable
- Scan before the review: nothing found
Licensing
Upstream is a plain MIT crate: LICENSE carries the MIT text (Copyright (c) 2022-2023 Yuki Kishimoto), every .rs file repeats the MIT header, and the crate metadata says license = "MIT". debian/copyright is DEP-5, has a Files: * stanza naming Yuki Kishimoto with MIT and a debian/* stanza for the Debian work, and reproduces the full MIT text, which is not in /usr/share/common-licenses. I checked all 15 upstream files against the tarball: the working tree is the crates.io-style orig (normalized Cargo.toml plus .cargo_vcs_info.json) with only the single Cargo.toml patch applied, so no file is outside upstream's MIT grant. No non-free terms, no vendored third-party code, no built or minified files, no fonts/images. The prescan's author check found no holder missing from debian/copyright, and my own reading agrees.
Packaging
Standard debcargo 2.8.3 output and correct throughout: source format 3.0 (quilt), debhelper compat 13 with dh-sequence-cargo and dh $@ --buildsystem cargo, a single Multi-Arch: same librust-async-utility-dev whose Depends exactly mirror Cargo.toml's per-target dependency features, Build-Depends-Arch carrying cargo/rustc/libstd-rust-dev and the crate dependencies, no maintainer scripts, three autopkgtest stanzas with the dev-dependencies they need, and a DEP-3 patch that only relaxes the async-wsocket version requirement. Standards-Version 4.7.4 is current against Policy 4.7.4.1; Vcs-* point at the Rust team's decbargo-conf. The only thing I could not confirm is that the autopkgtest dependency librust-async-wsocket-dev exists yet (see unconfirmed).
Issues
None.
Verified ◂
- File inventory: Cargo.toml, Cargo.toml.orig, Cargo.lock, .cargo_vcs_info.json, .gitignore, LICENSE, Makefile, README.md, src/{lib,runtime,time}.rs, src/task/{mod,wasm}.rs, tests/{wasm_timeout.rs,mock_websocket.js}, all under debian/; every one accounted for (.pc/ and debian/cargo-checksum.json left out as instructed).
- The orig tarball contains exactly these upstream files (Cargo.lock version 4, .cargo_vcs_info.json, both test files), so the tree is upstream plus debian/patches/0001-relax-dependencies.patch, which touches only Cargo.toml; no unrecorded change.
- tests/mock_websocket.js has no copyright or licence header, but it is an upstream test helper present in the orig tarball and is covered by the Files: * MIT stanza and the root LICENSE, not a separate-licence file.
- Cargo.lock is Cargo-generated (
# This file is automatically @generated by Cargo) and contains only dependency metadata, no third-party source; it needs no separate copyright stanza. - LICENSE is byte-for-byte the MIT text reproduced in the stand-alone
License: MITparagraph of debian/copyright; the src headers sayCopyright (c) 2022-2023 Yuki Kishimoto / Distributed under the MIT software license, matching the Files: * stanza's holder and years. - Cargo.toml.orig/Cargo.toml declare
license = "MIT", consistent with debian/copyright; no other licence wording anywhere in the tree (grep for Copyright, (C), ©, SPDX, GNU/Apache/MPL/public domain/non-commercial found nothing else). - debian/control dependencies all resolve in the archive: gloo-timers 0.3 (+default, +futures via librust-gloo-timers-dev 0.3.0-1+b2), wasm-bindgen-futures 0.4 (0.4.58-1), tokio 1.53.2-1, futures-util 0.3.34-1, async-std 1.13.2-3, smol 2.0.2-7, wasm-bindgen-test 0.3.58-1, dh-cargo 34 (>= 33~ required by the tests); Build-Depends-Arch lists every Cargo.toml dependency feature and nothing more, and Depends repeats the same per-target features.
- Policy version 4.7.4.1 while Standards-Version is 4.7.4: first two components match, so not an issue; Priority is optional in source control per Policy 5.6.6, so its absence is not a fault.
- Patch 0001-relax-dependencies.patch has DEP-3 headers (Description, Author, Last-Update, Forwarded) and changes only
version = "0.15"to">=0.15"for the wasm dev-dependency async-wsocket; nothing in the crate uses a newer async-wsocket API than 0.15, so the relaxation is the usual Rust-team kind. - debian/tests/control stanzas are well formed: Test-Command with Features/Restrictions/Depends,
@for the built package, and Architecture: !riscv64 only on the no-features stanza; Features values are unknown-to-autopkgtest and ignored, which is harmless. - debian/source/format is
3.0 (quilt); debian/debcargo.toml sets collapse_features = true, matching the single -dev package and its versioned Provides. - uscan found the packaged version as the newest upstream release (upstream
0.3.2, packaged0.3.2).
Not confirmed ◂
- debian/tests/control Depends on
librust-async-wsocket-dev (>= 0.15)(all three stanzas), but apt-cache finds no such binary in unstable/experimental and none among the NEW queues as of 2026-11-06; if the crate (async-wsocket) is not in fact packaged, autopkgtest could not install the test dependencies and all three test runs would fail before starting. This is a test-only dependency, not a Build-Depends, so it does not affect the build; the lists may simply predate the upload.
Proposed changes ◂
None.
