DFSG Assistant LLM REVIEW 0 blocker, 0 important, 0 minor

This is an LLM based review using a Debian Inference based workflow. It was not written by a member of the DFSG team and has not been checked by one. It is not a decision on the package: it may be wrong, and it may have missed things.

DFSG NEW review for rust-base45 version 3.2.0-1

Summary

  • Licensing is DFSG-compliant and debian/copyright is accurate: Yes
  • Packaging is of good quality: Yes
  • Issues: 0 blocker, 0 important, 0 minor
  • debian/watch: version 5
  • debian/copyright: machine-readable
  • Scan before the review: nothing found

Licensing

debian/copyright is DEP-5 (correct Format URL) with a Files: * stanza for all upstream files naming Rickard Natt och Dag and Expat, and a debian/* stanza naming the Debian Rust Maintainers and Steffen Moeller. Upstream Cargo.toml/Cargo.toml.orig declare license = "MIT", whose text is exactly the Expat text reproduced in the file; the full licence text is included, as Expat is not in /usr/share/common-licenses. The tree contains no third-party or vendored code, no built artefacts, and no non-free terms.

Packaging

Standard debcargo packaging: debhelper compat 13 with dh-sequence-cargo, correct Build-Depends/Build-Depends-Arch (dh-cargo 34 provides dh-sequence-cargo; rustc/libstd-rust-dev 1.97.1 exist), a single librust-base45-dev package with Multi-Arch: same and the usual versioned Provides. The one patch has a DEP-3 header, matches the orig tarball and removes only the criterion/rand dev-dependencies and [[bench]] target. Autopkgtests cover default, std, unsafe, no-default and all-features; changelog, Standards-Version (4.7.4 against Policy 4.7.4.1), Vcs-* and upstream metadata are all in order.

Issues

None.

Verified ◂
  • All 15 upstream files enumerated (Cargo.toml, Cargo.toml.orig, Cargo.lock, .cargo_vcs_info.json, .gitignore, .releaserc, CHANGELOG.md, README.md, .github/workflows/{pr_check,release}.yml, benches/bench.rs, src/{lib,alphabet,encode,decode,tests}.rs); all are covered by the Files: * Expat stanza, and no other copyright holder appears anywhere in them.
  • The pre-scan's author check reported no missing holder and listed no built or unlicensed file, so there was nothing further to account for.
  • debian/copyright is DEP-5; the Expat paragraph reproduces the licence verbatim, and both Files stanzas (*, then the more specific debian/*) are ordered per copyright-format's last-match rule.
  • Upstream declares MIT in Cargo.toml/Cargo.toml.orig and ships no LICENSE file; EXpat/MIT are the same licence, so the stanza is accurate.
  • debian/patches/remove-benchmark-dependencies.patch applies to the orig tarball's Cargo.toml (checked the tarball member), which still contains [[bench]] and the criterion/rand dev-dependencies; the patched tree has them removed and autobenches = false, so benches/bench.rs is not a build target and its absent dependencies do not affect build or tests.
  • debian/rules override dh_auto_test -- test --all is interpreted by dh-cargo's cargo.pm test sub as cargo test --all (the leading test selects the test action and is shifted off).
  • debian/tests/control @ in Depends and Features is a valid autopkgtest placeholder for the source package's binaries (autopkgtest spec, Depends field); the three --no-default-features tests are restricted to !riscv64, which is debcargo's template.
  • debian/copyright.debcargo.hint is the uninstalled debcargo template; it falls under the debian/* stanza and is not shipped in the binary package.
  • Standards-Version 4.7.4 against Policy 4.7.4.1 (same first two components); debhelper compat 13 substvar handling is satisfied by the declared ${misc:Depends}.
  • debian/control, rules, changelog, source/format, patches/series, tests/control and upstream/metadata were read in full; the tree was also grepped for every copyright/licence marker named in the method.
  • uscan found the packaged version as the newest upstream release (upstream 3.2.0, packaged 3.2.0).
