DFSG Assistant LLM REVIEW 0 blocker, 0 important, 0 minor

This is an LLM based review using a Debian Inference based workflow. It was not written by a member of the DFSG team and has not been checked by one. It is not a decision on the package: it may be wrong, and it may have missed things.

Report◂

DFSG NEW review for rust-dds version 0.2.0-2

Summary

  • Licensing is DFSG-compliant and debian/copyright is accurate: Yes
  • Packaging is of good quality: Yes
  • Issues: 0 blocker, 0 important, 0 minor
  • debian/watch: version 5
  • debian/copyright: machine-readable
  • Scan before the review: nothing found

Licensing

The crate is dual-licensed MIT OR Apache-2.0, declared in Cargo.toml (license = "MIT OR Apache-2.0") and README.md, with both LICENSE-MIT and LICENSE-APACHE shipped. debian/copyright is machine-readable (DEP-5), names every holder with evidence (Michael Schmidt and the image-rs Developers per LICENSE-MIT/Cargo.toml, Kathryn Long for the one function copied from half-rs), matches the licence short names to the actual texts, and includes full MIT text plus a pointer to /usr/share/common-licenses/Apache-2.0. No non-free terms, no unlicensed files, no vendored third-party code, no binaries or minified files.

Packaging

Standard debcargo-generated packaging of good quality: debhelper compat 13, dh-sequence-cargo, minimal rules, correct Build-Depends/Build-Depends-Arch split, resolvable dependencies, a properly named single librust-dds-dev package with Multi-Arch: same, feature packages provided, autopkgtests present, 3.0 (quilt) source format, and a sane changelog (0.2.0-2, unstable). The single quilt patch (relax-deps.patch) only accommodates Debian's dependency versions and disables the criterion/rand benches; it is applied to the normalized Cargo.toml and matches the unpatched Cargo.toml in the .orig tarball. No issues that a sponsor would require fixing.

Issues

None.

Verified ◂
  • debian/copyright is DEP-5; it has Files: * (MIT or Apache-2.0), Files: src/color/formats.rs (adding Kathryn Long), Files: debian/*, and standalone MIT and Apache-2.0 paragraphs. The Format: URL is the current 1.0 URL.
  • src/color/formats.rs:588-591 is the only code copied from elsewhere: a function from half-rs (starkat99/half-rs) with an in-file header // Author: Kathryn Long / // License: MIT OR Apache-2.0; the debian/copyright stanza for that file credits 2016-2021 Kathryn Long <squeeself@gmail.com> with the same dual licence.
  • Other external references in src/ (learn.microsoft.com DDS/DXGI specs, fgiesen.wordpress.com, microsoft DirectXTex header/issue links, gitlab.com/kornelski/oklab) are acknowledgements of specifications, constants or techniques, not licence notices for copied code; the oklab comment (src/color/oklab.rs:121-127) explicitly says the implementation after the initial guess was replaced.
  • Every other file in the tree (src/**, benches/.rs, README.md, CHANGES.md, supported-formats.md, Cargo.toml, Cargo.toml.orig, Cargo.lock, .cargo_vcs_info.json, LICENSE-) is plain text source/data and is covered by the Files: * stanza; no .so/.jar/.class/.pyc/minified JS/CSS, fonts, images or binaries exist, so there is nothing with a missing preferred form.
  • The prescan's author check (Scanned 53 files ... ALL SOURCE AUTHORS LISTED IN debian/copyright) found no holder missing from debian/copyright; findings list was empty.
  • debian/control dependencies all resolve: apt-cache confirms librust-astc-decode-dev, librust-bitflags-dev, librust-glam-dev, librust-rayon-dev, librust-resize-dev, librust-zerocopy-dev, and the librust-png-0.18/librust-sha2-0.11 providers named in debian/tests/control.
  • Standards-Version 4.7.4 has the same first two components as Policy 4.7.4.1 (the reviewing system's current Policy), so it is current.
  • debian/patches/relax-deps.patch matches the difference between the shipped (unpatched) Cargo.toml in rust-dds_0.2.0.orig.tar.gz and the patched tree Cargo.toml (glam/astc-decode/png/sha2 version relaxations, benches disabled); the dev-dependency versions it sets agree with the .dsc Testsuite-Triggers and debian/tests/control.
  • The .pc/ directory was excluded from every search and read.
  • uscan found the packaged version as the newest upstream release (upstream 0.2.0, packaged 0.2.0).
Not confirmed ◂
  • supported-formats.md carries <!-- This file is generated by tests/format.rs. -->, and tests/format.rs is not in the source package (upstream Cargo.toml include excludes tests/). Its content is a table derived from the present src/ tree, so it is not a built file lacking its source of truth, but the generator itself cannot be inspected here.
  • The patch relaxes glam to >= 0.25.0 while Debian ships librust-glam-dev 0.30.1; whether the crate still compiles against glam 0.30 was not verified (no build was run).
  • debian/cargo-checksum.json contains {"package":"Could not get crate checksum","files":{}}; this is the normal debcargo output when the crate checksum could not be fetched, and dh-cargo copies it to the installed registry as-is, but its effect on Cargo checksum verification was not tested.
  • Why the model asked for what a review has no use for. During this review it asked once for something outside the package and the reviewing system (another file of the sandbox, or a URL), or was given part of the review tooling's own configuration, and that was refused or withheld. A model does this when something it has read tells it to, so look in the package for text addressed to a reviewing program, and treat this report with suspicion. Refused: grep: " /usr/share/perl5/Debian/Debhelper" is not a file of the package or of the reviewing system.
