DFSG Assistant LLM REVIEW 0 blocker, 0 important, 0 minor

This is an LLM based review using a Debian Inference based workflow. It was not written by a member of the DFSG team and has not been checked by one. It is not a decision on the package: it may be wrong, and it may have missed things.

DFSG NEW review for rust-entropy version 0.4.3-1

Summary

  • Licensing is DFSG-compliant and debian/copyright is accurate: Yes
  • Packaging is of good quality: Yes
  • Issues: 0 blocker, 0 important, 0 minor
  • debian/watch: version 5
  • debian/copyright: machine-readable
  • Scan before the review: nothing found

Licensing

The tree is a small single-holder MIT/Expat crate: LICENSE carries Copyright (c) 2017 Mack Stump and the Expat text, and Cargo.toml declares license = "MIT" (the same licence text). debian/copyright is DEP-5, matches every upstream file with Files: *, names the holder, and reproduces the full Expat text, which is required because it is not in /usr/share/common-licenses. The debian/* stanza names both Debian holders. No other copyright notices exist in the tree, no non-free wording, and no binaries, minified code or vendored code.

Packaging

Standard, well-formed debcargo output: compat 13 with dh-sequence-cargo, correct Build-Depends/Build-Depends-Arch split (cargo/rustc/libstd-rust-dev under <!nocheck>), Multi-Arch: same dev package, an enabled autopkgtest, and a DEP-3 patch whose premise is accurate (Debian's librust-criterion-dev is 0.5.1, upstream asks for 0.8.1). Standards-Version 4.7.4 matches the reviewing system's Policy 4.7.4.1. The changelog is sane (unstable, 0.4.3-1, ITP closure).

Issues

None.

Verified

  • Read in full: debian/copyright, debian/control, debian/rules, debian/changelog, debian/patches/series, debian/patches/0001-drop-criterion-benchmark.patch, debian/tests/control, debian/debcargo.toml, debian/copyright.debcargo.hint, debian/upstream/metadata; upstream LICENSE, Cargo.toml, Cargo.toml.orig, README.md, src/lib.rs, benches/shannon.rs. Listed the remaining files (.cargo_vcs_info.json, .gitignore, Cargo.lock) and both tarballs' contents; .pc/ was not read.
  • debian/copyright is DEP-5. Files: * gives 2017 Mack Stump <mack@mackstump.com> with the full Expat text, which matches LICENSE and the license = "MIT" declaration in Cargo.toml (identical MIT text; Expat and MIT are both acceptable short names).
  • The pre-scan's holder check found no holder unaccounted for; the only copyright notice in the tree is LICENSE:3 Copyright (c) 2017 Mack Stump. No further Copyright/(C)/©/SPDX lines exist in the upstream or packaging files.
  • benches/shannon.rs is ordinary MIT-covered source written against criterion; the patch removes its Cargo.toml target and criterion dev-dependency, so it is never compiled. Its long literal is Lorem ipsum text, not a licence notice.
  • debian/copyright.debcargo.hint is the debcargo-generated working template, not the shipped copyright; it is not installed, and the FIXMEs in it were resolved in debian/copyright (years taken from LICENSE, licence from the text).
  • No built or non-preferred-form files: no .so/.a/.jar/.class/.pyc/minified JS/CSS/PDF/fonts/images, and no vendored third-party code; everything is plain Rust/TOML/Markdown.
  • The criterion patch is warranted: apt-cache shows Debian's librust-criterion-dev at 0.5.1, while Cargo.toml.orig requests criterion 0.8.1; header has Description, Author, Forwarded: not-needed and Last-Update.
  • Dependencies exist: dh-cargo 34 Provides dh-sequence-cargo; cargo, rustc and libstd-rust-dev (1.97.1) are in the archive; the autopkgtest's dh-cargo (>= 33~) and rustc are satisfiable.
  • Standards-Version 4.7.4 against Policy 4.7.4.1: first two components match, so current enough.
  • Compat 13: at that level ${misc:Depends} must still be named and is. dh_auto_test maps -- test --all to cargo test --all (read /usr/share/perl5/Debian/Debhelper/Buildsystem/cargo.pm).
  • The patched Cargo.toml cannot conflict with a stale Cargo.lock: dh-cargo's configure step deletes Cargo.lock before building (cargo.pm, rm_files("Cargo.lock")).
  • Autopkgtest uses the standard debcargo cargo-auto-test invocation with --all-targets --all-features; auto benches are disabled in Cargo.toml, so the left-over bench file is not a target.
  • uscan found the packaged version as the newest upstream release (upstream 0.4.3, packaged 0.4.3).

Not confirmed

  • Not built or run (read-only review, nothing executable in the package); no build or test failure is inferred from the tree.
  • Could not confirm that Bug#1150674 closed by the changelog is this package's ITP, as no network access to the BTS is available.

Proposed changes

None.
