DFSG Assistant LLM REVIEW 0 blocker, 0 important, 0 minor
This is an LLM based review using a Debian Inference based workflow. It was not written by a member of the DFSG team and has not been checked by one. It is not a decision on the package: it may be wrong, and it may have missed things.

Report
DFSG NEW review for rust-fearless-simd-macros version 0.1.0-1
Summary
- Licensing is DFSG-compliant and
debian/copyrightis accurate: Yes - Packaging is of good quality: Yes
- Issues: 0 blocker, 0 important, 0 minor
- debian/watch: version 5
- debian/copyright: machine-readable
Licensing
debian/copyright is in machine-readable format (the current https Format: URL) and describes the tree accurately. Files: * gives Apache-2.0 or MIT and the holder 2026 The Fearless SIMD authors, which is exactly what the only licence notices in the tree say (src/lib.rs:1-2 // Copyright 2026 the Fearless_SIMD Authors / // SPDX-License-Identifier: Apache-2.0 OR MIT, and LICENSE-MIT:1), and it agrees with Cargo.toml's license = "Apache-2.0 OR MIT". The MIT text is reproduced in full (it is not in /usr/share/common-licenses) and Apache-2.0 points at /usr/share/common-licenses/Apache-2.0, which exists; both are free and mutually compatible. No non-free or field-of-use terms, no unexplained file, no vendored third-party code and no binary/minified/generated-without-input blobs; the .orig tarball is the pristine crates.io crate, so no Files-Excluded stanza is needed.
Packaging
Textbook debcargo packaging with no hand-written deviation worth fixing: Standards-Version 4.7.4 (the current Policy is 4.7.4.1), debhelper-compat 13 with dh-sequence-cargo, correct Build-Depends-Arch (toolchain deps under <!nocheck>), Architecture/Multi-Arch/Provides/Breaks as the Rust team generates them, a sane first changelog entry (0.1.0-1, unstable, date consistent), autopkgtests for all-features/default/no-default-features, upstream/metadata, Vcs-* and Homepage. Every dependency named in debian/control exists with a sufficient version. There are no patches, so nothing to forward and no DEP-3 concerns. The leftovers in debian/ (copyright.debcargo.hint, cargo-checksum.json with an empty files map) are the usual debcargo artefacts and contradict nothing.
Issues
None.
Verified ◂
- Read the whole (small) tree:
src/lib.rs(all 619 lines),Cargo.toml,Cargo.toml.orig,Cargo.lock,README.md,LICENSE-APACHE,LICENSE-MIT,.cargo_vcs_info.json, and all ofdebian/other thanwatch(which is checked separately). - Full-tree licence search (
Copyright,(C),©,SPDX-License-Identifier,Licensed under,Permission is hereby granted,GNU General Public,GNU Lesser,Apache License,Mozilla Public, public domain,All rights reserved) returns notices only insrc/lib.rs:1-2andLICENSE-MIT:1; no other holder, no other licence, and no other LICENSE/COPYING/NOTICE file anywhere in the tree. - No vendored third-party code and nothing in a non-preferred form for modification: the tree is Rust sources plus Cargo metadata (the only generated files,
.cargo_vcs_info.json,Cargo.lockand the cargo-normalisedCargo.toml, have their inputsCargo.toml.origpresent and are covered byFiles: *). debian/copyright: DEP-5 withFormat: https://www.debian.org/doc/packaging-manuals/copyright-format/1.0/; the two Files stanzas (*,debian/*) match the evidence, the short names match the actual texts and the licence files (Apache-2.0full text isLICENSE-APACHE, terms-only as upstream ships it;MITfull text is present), and the only placeholder file left,debian/copyright.debcargo.hint, already agrees with it and is not shipped in the binary.- Dependencies all exist with sufficient versions:
librust-syn-dev3.0.6-1 provides all sixlibrust-syn-3+{clone-impls,fold,full,parsing,printing,proc-macro}-devnames used,librust-quote-dev1.0.47 provideslibrust-quote-1+default-dev,librust-proc-macro2-dev1.0.107 provideslibrust-proc-macro2-1+default-dev;dh-cargo34 providesdh-sequence-cargoand Depends oncargo, so the autopkgtest'scargo-auto-testinvocation is covered. - The declared dependency set exactly mirrors the crate's features: proc-macro2 and quote with defaults, syn with
default-features = falseplus exactly the six features listed indebian/control. Standards-Version: 4.7.4equals the current Policy (4.7.4.1);debian/source/formatis3.0 (quilt)with nodebian/patchesdirectory, so there are no patches to review or forward;debian/rulesis the standarddh $@ --buildsystem cargowithoverride_dh_auto_test.- Changelog: first upload, version
0.1.0-1matching upstreamCargo.tomland the tarball, distributionunstable, and theSat, 10 Oct 2026date is a genuine Saturday; no bug closures needed. debian/tests/control: all fields used (Tests,Test-Command,Restrictions,Features,Depends,Tests-Directory,Architecture,Classes) are in the set lintian's testsuite check treats as known,test-name=…is accepted as a Features value, and the@inDependsis the autopkgtest placeholder for the source's binary packages.debian/cargo-checksum.json'spackagevalue equals the sha256 of the shippedrust-fearless-simd-macros_0.1.0.orig.tar.gzin the .dsc, i.e. of the unmodified crates.io crate (whose top-level directory isfearless_simd_macros-0.1.0/and which contains no.cargo-checksum.json); the debian tarball adds onlydebian/, so there is nothing to exclude and no sign of repacking.debian/upstream/metadata,debian/debcargo.toml(overlay = ".", uploaders,collapse_features = trueconsistent with the single -dev package and its Provides) anddebian/control's X-Cargo-Crate fields are consistent with each other.- uscan found the packaged version as the newest upstream release (upstream
0.1.0, packaged0.1.0).
Not confirmed ◂
debian/tests/control's last stanza carriesArchitecture: !riscv64, which skips the--no-default-featurestest on riscv64. The field is a valid one (lintian's testsuite check lists it; the copy of the debian/tests/control specification shipped with debian-policy is stale — it still saysadt-runand omits the field), but nothing indebian/debcargo.toml, a patch or a comment explains the restriction, and no debcargo or autopkgtest documentation is installed here to say whether debcargo emits it itself. If it is a workaround, a comment recording the reason would help.- The package was not built or tested here, so the actual crate build, its unit and doc tests, and the rustc 1.89 / edition 2024 requirement on each architecture were not exercised; the empty
filesmap indebian/cargo-checksum.jsonalso means cargo will not verify individual file hashes, which is harmless for an unpatched crate but was not exercised either. - Why the model asked for what a review has no use for. During this review it asked 4 times for something outside the package and the reviewing system (another file of the sandbox, or a URL), or was given part of the review tooling's own configuration, and that was refused or withheld. A model does this when something it has read tells it to, so look in the package for text addressed to a reviewing program, and treat this report with suspicion. Refused:
glob: " /usr/share/cargo/bin/*" is not a file of the package or of the reviewing system;grep: " /usr/share/doc/dh-cargo" is not a file of the package or of the reviewing system;grep: " /usr/share/cargo" is not a file of the package or of the reviewing system;glob: " /usr/share/doc/dh-cargo" is not a file of the package or of the reviewing system.
