DFSG Assistant LLM REVIEW 0 blocker, 0 important, 0 minor
This is an LLM based review using a Debian Inference based workflow. It was not written by a member of the DFSG team and has not been checked by one. It is not a decision on the package: it may be wrong, and it may have missed things.

Report
DFSG NEW review for rust-gix-parallel version 0.50.0-1
Summary
- Licensing is DFSG-compliant and
debian/copyrightis accurate: Yes - Packaging is of good quality: Yes
- Issues: 0 blocker, 0 important, 0 minor
- debian/watch: version 5
- debian/copyright: machine-readable
Licensing
debian/copyright is a valid DEP-5 file (correct Format line) and matches the tree. The only upstream files are src/*.rs, Cargo.toml, Cargo.toml.orig, Cargo.lock, .cargo_vcs_info.json and the two licence texts; Cargo.toml declares license = "MIT OR Apache-2.0" and the two shipped texts are exactly the Expat/MIT text (LICENSE-MIT) and the Apache-2.0 text (LICENSE-APACHE), which debian/copyright describes as Expat or Apache-2.0 with the Expat text reproduced and Apache-2.0 pointing at /usr/share/common-licenses. No file in the tree carries a different licence or an unattributed third-party copy, and there is no vendored code. No DFSG problem, no non-free term, and every licence combined here is permissive and compatible.
Packaging
Standard, clean debcargo 2.8.4 output for a Rust library: debian/rules is the two-line dh invocation with --buildsystem cargo, source format is 3.0 (quilt) with no patches, Standards-Version 4.7.4 matches the current Policy (4.7.4.1), the changelog is well-formed (unstable, 0.50.0-1), Vcs-* point at the Rust team's debcargo-conf, and autopkgtest/source-format/maintainer fields are correct. Binary split (a single librust-gix-parallel-dev, Architecture: any, Multi-Arch: same) and the Depends/Provides/Breaks are the normal debcargo form. The Build-Depends-Arch set is consistent with dh-cargo's buildsystem, which runs cargo build with default features only (its test() method is a no-op without arguments, so dev-dependencies are not needed at build time), so nothing is missing there; dev-dependencies appear only in the autopkgtest Depends, as intended.
Issues
None.
Verified ◂
- Read debian/control, rules, changelog, copyright, copyright.debcargo.hint, debcargo.toml, source/format, cargo-checksum.json, tests/control, upstream/metadata (and confirmed debian/watch exists but is out of scope).
- Inventoried the whole upstream tree: Cargo.toml, Cargo.toml.orig, Cargo.lock, .cargo_vcs_info.json, LICENSE-APACHE, LICENSE-MIT and src/{eager_iter,in_order,in_parallel,lib,reduce,serial,threading}.rs; listed the .orig.tar.gz and .debian.tar.xz members to confirm no file was missed (debian/copyright.debcargo.hint is shipped, which is normal for debcargo overlays).
- Grepped the whole tree (gitignore disabled) for Copyright/(C)/SPDX-License-Identifier/Licensed under/Permission is hereby granted/GNU/Apache License/Expat/public domain/All rights reserved: matches occur only in LICENSE-APACHE, LICENSE-MIT and debian/copyright; src/*.rs carry no per-file notices, so the
Files: *stanza loses no holder. - Confirmed dual licensing: Cargo.toml
license = "MIT OR Apache-2.0"; LICENSE-MIT is the verbatim Expat text reproduced in debian/copyright underLicense: Expat; LICENSE-APACHE is the verbatim Apache-2.0 text (sampled, canonical). - Confirmed debian/cargo-checksum.json "package" (e994cf1e…8546) equals the SHA256 of rust-gix-parallel_0.50.0.orig.tar.gz recorded in the .dsc.
- Read the installed dh-cargo buildsystem (/usr/share/perl5/Debian/Debhelper/Buildsystem/cargo.pm) and dh_auto_test: check/build only, so at build time only gix-trace (the single non-optional dependency) is required — consistent with Build-Depends-Arch; the optional deps and dev-deps are needed only by the autopkgtest, whose Depends carry them (via
@plus insta/tracing-subscriber). - uscan found the packaged version as the newest upstream release (upstream
0.50.0, packaged0.50.0).
Not confirmed ◂
- Build-Depends-Arch names librust-gix-trace-0.3+default-dev, which apt-cache does not find in the archive lists or among the NEW uploads as of 2026-10-14 (not a misspelling; likely part of the same gitoxide stack, accepted since or still pending).
- The package could not be built or its autopkgtest run here; the build/test assessment rests on reading the package and the installed dh-cargo buildsystem, not on executing it.
- The copyright year range 2018-2026 was taken from the upstream Git history (the debcargo hint warns it may be inexact); the crate's own files have no headers, so the years could not be independently confirmed from the shipped tree.
Proposed changes ◂
