DFSG Assistant LLM REVIEW 0 blocker, 0 important, 0 minor
This is an LLM based review using a Debian Inference based workflow. It was not written by a member of the DFSG team and has not been checked by one. It is not a decision on the package: it may be wrong, and it may have missed things.

Report
DFSG NEW review for rust-gstreamer-check-sys version 0.25.4-1
Summary
- Licensing is DFSG-compliant and
debian/copyrightis accurate: Yes - Packaging is of good quality: Yes
- Issues: 0 blocker, 0 important, 0 minor
- debian/watch: version 5
- debian/copyright: machine-readable
Licensing
debian/copyright is in DEP-5 format with the correct Format URL and is accurate: the whole upstream crate is MIT (upstream COPYRIGHT states 'All the sys crates ... are licensed only under the terms of the MIT license', and Cargo.toml says license = "MIT"), and the full MIT text is reproduced. The only copyright notices in the tree name Sebastian Dröge (Cargo.toml authors) and the Debian packaging is attributed to the Rust team and the uploader; no other holder or licence appears anywhere. No non-free terms, no unlicensed files, and no binary, minified, font, image or vendored third-party files, so the licensing is DFSG-free.
Packaging
Standard debcargo 2.8.4 output, correctly made. debian/control uses debhelper-compat 13 with dh-sequence-cargo, a correct Build-Depends-Arch with <!nocheck> on the Rust toolchain and librust--dev packages, Multi-Arch: same, and a Provides list that matches the crate's features (v1_30 is deliberately dropped via debcargo.toml remove_features and the auto-generated patch, and appears nowhere in Provides). The two patches are auto-generated by debcargo and document their purpose, debian/tests/control provides versioned autopkgtests, upstream/metadata is present, and Standards-Version 4.7.4 matches the current Policy 4.7.4.1. The changelog version/distribution and Vcs- fields are fine and there are no maintainer scripts.
Issues
None.
Verified ◂
- Read all of debian/: control, rules, changelog, copyright, copyright.debcargo.hint, debcargo.toml, cargo-checksum.json, patches/series and both patches, source/format, tests/control, upstream/metadata.
- Inventoried the whole upstream tree: only .rs, .c, .h, .toml, .md, .txt and .json files plus LICENSE and COPYRIGHT; no .so/.a/.jar/.class/minified JS/fonts/images/PDFs and no vendored third-party code.
- Grepped the whole tree (gitignore off, .pc excluded) for Copyright/(C)/©/SPDX/Licensed under/Permission is hereby granted/GNU/Apache/MPL/public domain/All rights reserved: the only licensing statements are in COPYRIGHT, LICENSE, README.md, Cargo.toml, Cargo.toml.orig and debian/copyright, all MIT.
- README.md and COPYRIGHT both confirm MIT for this sys crate; the LICENSE file contains the MIT text reproduced in debian/copyright's stand-alone License: MIT paragraph.
- No FILE carries a conflicting notice; src/lib.rs, src/auto/versions.txt, tests/*.c, tests/abi.rs and build.rs are gir-generated upstream files with no separate terms.
- debian/copyright has no Files-Excluded and the orig tarball is the pristine crate, so nothing needed excluding or repacking.
- Build dependencies exist in the archive: librust-gstreamer-sys-0.25+default-dev is provided by librust-gstreamer-sys-dev 0.25.2-3, which Depends on libgstreamer1.0-dev (>= 1.28); that package supplies the gstreamer-check-1.0 pkg-config file the C-based abi test compiles against, so the gstreamer-check headers are present transitively.
- Policy checked against the installed manual (v4.7.4.1, 2026-03-31); the upgrading checklist omits the minor patch version, so Standards-Version 4.7.4 is current; no Policy requirement is violated.
- uscan found the packaged version as the newest upstream release (upstream
0.25.4, packaged0.25.4).
Not confirmed ◂
- debian/cargo-checksum.json contains
{"package":"Could not get crate checksum","files":{}}(no per-file hashes). dh-cargo copies this file in as .cargo-checksum.json; whether cargo accepts it unchanged can only be settled by a real build, which was not possible here. - The debian/tests/control entries build C test code with cc/pkg-config; whether every autopkgtest testbed provides them is not something that can be checked from the package alone.
- The policy and man reference tools returned only their own help text for every argument, and apt-cache stopped returning results after several calls, so a few Policy/manpage details were checked by reading /usr/share/doc/debian-policy directly instead.
