DFSG Assistant LLM REVIEW 0 blocker, 0 important, 0 minor

This is an LLM based review using a Debian Inference based workflow. It was not written by a member of the DFSG team and has not been checked by one. It is not a decision on the package: it may be wrong, and it may have missed things.

DFSG NEW review for rust-jsonschema-regex version 0.58.6-1

Summary

  • Licensing is DFSG-compliant and debian/copyright is accurate: Yes
  • Packaging is of good quality: Yes
  • Issues: 0 blocker, 0 important, 0 minor
  • debian/watch: version 5
  • debian/copyright: machine-readable
  • Scan before the review: nothing found

Licensing

The tree is tiny and consistently MIT: Cargo.toml declares license = "MIT" and author Dmitry Dygalo, debian/copyright is DEP-5 with the correct Format URL, Files: * naming that holder and licence and a later debian/* stanza for the packaging, and the full MIT text is reproduced because MIT is not in /usr/share/common-licenses. No source file carries a different or additional licence notice, no vendored third-party code or built artefact ships, and the prescan found no holder missing from debian/copyright. The licensing is DFSG-compliant and the copyright file is accurate and complete for every file present.

Packaging

This is standard, clean debcargo output following Debian Rust team practice: debhelper compat 13 with dh-sequence-cargo and the two-line cargo rules, dependencies declared in Build-Depends-Arch and present in the archive at usable versions, a correct Provides set for the 0/0.58/0.58.6 semver levels, a valid changelog, Vcs-* fields, DEP-12 upstream metadata, and three standard cargo-auto-test autopkgtest stanzas. The only deviations from the default template are the documented test_is_broken = true (bug #1151013, giving Restrictions: flaky) and a !riscv64 restriction, both accepted rust-team practice; nothing here would block a sponsor.

Issues

None.

Verified ◂
  • Prescan: dfsg-author-check reported ALL SOURCE AUTHORS LISTED IN debian/copyright and listed no file to account for; its scan covered the six non-debian files in the tree.
  • Full inventory (glob with hidden and gitignore disabled, .pc/ and debian/cargo-checksum.json excluded per instructions): src/lib.rs, src/syntax.rs, Cargo.toml, Cargo.toml.orig, Cargo.lock, .cargo_vcs_info.json, plus debian/. Nothing else exists, so Files: * covers all six upstream files and Files: debian/* covers the packaging.
  • Cargo.toml (normalised from Cargo.toml.orig, whose license/authors are workspace-inherited) declares license = "MIT" and authors = ["Dmitry Dygalo <dmitry@dygalo.dev>"]; debian/copyright names exactly that holder and licence for Files: *. The standalone License: MIT paragraph carries the full permission text.
  • Greps of the whole tree for Copyright, (C), ©, SPDX-License-Identifier, Licensed under, Permission is hereby granted, GNU/Apache/MPL/public-domain wording and non-free terms (non-commercial, no-derivative, field-of-use, Good-not-Evil, All rights reserved) matched only debian/copyright and debian/copyright.debcargo.hint plus incidental (c) identifiers in Rust code; no source file bears another holder or licence.
  • No built artefacts of any kind ship: no ELF/.so/.a, .jar/.class, minified JS/CSS, PDF, or generated code without input. The crate has no vendor/ directory; regex-syntax is an ordinary dependency on librust-regex-syntax-dev, not an embedded copy.
  • debian/copyright.debcargo.hint is the debcargo-conf generation input (it still carries FIXME (overlay) UNKNOWN-YEARS); it is inert, is matched by the debian/* MIT stanza, and the generated debian/copyright has the years filled in, so it is not a licensing issue.
  • debian/control dependencies checked against the archive with the apt-cache tool: dh-sequence-cargo is provided by dh-cargo 34; librust-regex-syntax-0.8+default-dev by librust-regex-syntax-dev 0.8.11+dfsg-1 (>= 0.8.9 satisfied); librust-regex-1+default-dev by librust-regex-dev 1.13.1-1 (>= 1.11.1, autopkgtest only); librust-test-case-3+default-dev by librust-test-case-dev 3.3.1-7. rustc:native (>= 1.85.0) matches Cargo.toml's rust-version and the Breaks: rustc (<< 1.85.0~).
  • Build-Depends-Arch lists only the crate's runtime dependency; the dev-dependencies regex and test-case appear only in the autopkgtest Depends, which is correct because dh-cargo's buildsystem test method defaults to cargo build (checked in /usr/share/perl5/Debian/Debhelper/Buildsystem/cargo.pm) — the test suite is run by cargo-auto-test in autopkgtest, not during the build.
  • debian/tests/control has three debcargo-standard stanzas (--all-features, default, --no-default-features) with versions matching Cargo.toml (0.58.6) and its dev-dependencies; all carry Restrictions: allow-stderr, flaky from the documented test_is_broken = true in debian/debcargo.toml, and the third has Architecture: !riscv64, both standard rust-team output, not counted as defects.
  • Standards-Version is 4.7.4 against the reviewing system's Policy 4.7.4.1, so the first two components match and it is current; debhelper compat 13 with dh-sequence-cargo is supported by debhelper 14.5/dh-cargo 34.
  • debian/rules is the minimal dh $@ --buildsystem cargo; debian/source/format is 3.0 (quilt) with no patches, which is consistent; there are no maintainer scripts or *.maintscript files. debian/changelog is version 0.58.6-1, distribution unstable, urgency medium, valid RFC-2822 date, and needs no bug closures for a new package. debian/upstream/metadata uses Archive/Repository-Browse/Repository/Documentation consistent with X-Cargo-Crate jsonschema-regex 0.58.6.
  • uscan found upstream releases with debian/watch; a newer upstream version is available (upstream 0.59.0, packaged 0.58.6), which is not a fault of the package.
Not confirmed ◂
  • The crate ships no LICENSE/COPYING file, so the MIT identification rests on Cargo.toml's license = "MIT" (inlined by cargo from the upstream workspace) and on debian/copyright's reproduced MIT text; a copy of the jsonschema repository's own LICENSE was not available to compare wording.
  • The upstream copyright years 2020-2026 in the Files: * stanza were carried over from debcargo's git-derived hint (which said the years were extracted from upstream git and were not available in Cargo.toml); they could not be checked against upstream history.
  • The autopkgtest suite cannot be run here; debcargo.toml marks it test_is_broken citing bug #1151013 and the stanzas are therefore Restrictions: flaky, so whether the tests pass was not observed.
Proposed changes ◂

None.
