Package Information

Descriptionclient for the pdudaemon power control service - Rust source code

pdudaemon-client is a minimal client for pdudaemon, a daemon which controls power distribution units (PDUs) over HTTP. It allows ports of a PDU managed by pdudaemon to be switched on, off or rebooted. Source code for Debianized Rust crate "pdudaemon-client"

DFSG Assistant LLM REVIEW 0 blocker, 0 important, 0 minor

This is an LLM based review using a Debian Inference based workflow. It was not written by a member of the DFSG team and has not been checked by one. It is not a decision on the package: it may be wrong, and it may have missed things.

DFSG NEW review for rust-pdudaemon-client version 0.1.2-1

Summary

  • Licensing is DFSG-compliant and debian/copyright is accurate: Yes
  • Packaging is of good quality: Yes
  • Issues: 0 blocker, 0 important, 0 minor
  • debian/watch: version 5
  • debian/copyright: machine-readable
  • Scan before the review: nothing found

Licensing

The whole upstream tree (8 files) is a single-author crate, Sjoerd Simons, licensed MIT OR Apache-2.0 as declared in Cargo.toml line 25 and Cargo.toml.orig line 6; there are no other copyright or licence notices anywhere in the tree, no vendored code, and no non-free wording. debian/copyright is DEP-5, names the holder and years, carries the full Expat text and points at /usr/share/common-licenses/Apache-2.0, which is all that is required since upstream ships no LICENSE file of its own. debian/* files are covered by their own stanza. The prescan's author check found no unlisted holder.

Packaging

A conventional debcargo-generated source package: compat 13 with dh-sequence-cargo, a correct Build-Depends-Arch/Depends set whose crates all exist in the archive at satisfying versions, a two-package split (Rust source plus the pducli CLI) that is properly declared (${shlibs:Depends}, Built-Using/Static-Built-Using, Multi-Arch: same on the -dev package), a DEP-3 patch with a clear purpose, an accurate hand-written man page installed through debian/pducli.manpages, autopkgtest stanzas for both packages, and an up-to-date Standards-Version (4.7.4 against Policy 4.7.4.1). Nothing here would hold up an upload.

Issues

None.

Verified ◂
  • debian/copyright read in full: DEP-5 with Files: * (2023-2024 Sjoerd Simons), Files: debian/* (Debian Rust Maintainers, Qualcomm), stand-alone License: MIT (full Expat text) and License: Apache-2.0 (pointer to /usr/share/common-licenses/Apache-2.0, which exists).
  • Grep of the whole tree (excluding debian/ and .pc/) for copyright/licence words returns only license = "MIT OR Apache-2.0" in Cargo.toml:25 and Cargo.toml.orig:6; src/lib.rs, examples/pducli.rs, README.md, .gitignore, Cargo.lock, .cargo_vcs_info.json carry none, so no holder or licence is missing from debian/copyright.
  • Prescan author check scanned the same 8 files and reported every holder named in debian/copyright; no file was listed as unaccounted for.
  • Cargo.lock (1451 lines, @generated by Cargo) and .cargo_vcs_info.json (crates.io metadata containing only a git sha1) are generated metadata, not built binaries; their generator input Cargo.toml is present, and dh-cargo's buildsystem (cargo.pm configure) removes Cargo.lock before building.
  • .github/workflows/ci.yml is upstream CI text with no licence content; it installs protobuf-compiler/libudev-dev, leftovers that are irrelevant to this crate and to Debian packaging.
  • No LICENSE/COPYING/NOTICE/AUTHORS file exists upstream; the MIT text in debian/copyright and the Apache-2.0 pointer satisfy Policy 12.5.
  • debian/patches/build-bin.patch has DEP-3 headers (Description, Author, Forwarded: not-needed, Last-Update) and turns the [[example]] pducli into [[bin]] while promoting its three dev-dependencies to dependencies, so debcargo can build the CLI; purpose clear and Debian-specific.
  • debian/control: compat 13, dh-sequence-cargo provided by dh-cargo 34 (checked with apt-cache); every Build-Depends-Arch/Depends entry resolves (librust-clap-4+derive-dev via librust-clap-dev 4.6.7-1, librust-tokio-1+full-dev via librust-tokio-dev 1.53.2-1, librust-reqwest-0.12-dev 0.12.28-5, librust-thiserror-1-dev 1.0.69, librust-anyhow-dev 1.0.104, librust-url-dev 2.5.8).
  • debian/rules: dh $@ --buildsystem cargo and override_dh_auto_test: dh_auto_test -- test --all; cargo.pm test switches to cargo test on the test argument, and at compat 13 dh skips that override when DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS contains nocheck.
  • debian/pducli.manpages names debian/pducli.1, which dh_installman supports (debian/package.manpages, dh_installman(1) FILES); the man page's options (-u/--url with default http://localhost:16421, -d/--delay, on/off/reboot/help) match examples/pducli.rs.
  • debian/tests/control: three cargo-auto-test stanzas (all-features, default, no-default-features) with @-expanded Depends and Features; well-formed against the autopkgtest spec.
  • debian/changelog: 0.1.2-1, unstable, urgency medium, plausible date (2026-11-03), Closes: #1152908; Vcs-Git/Vcs-Browser point at debcargo-conf src/pdudaemon-client; Standards-Version 4.7.4 matches the reviewing system's Policy 4.7.4.1 in its first two components.
  • No maintainer scripts, no embedded third-party code, no fonts/images/PDFs in the tree.
  • uscan found the packaged version as the newest upstream release (upstream 0.1.2, packaged 0.1.2).
  • Every pointer of debian/copyright to /usr/share/common-licenses names a file that is there (Apache-2.0).
Not confirmed ◂
  • The upstream copyright years 2023-2024 in Files: * cannot be verified from the tarball: no source file carries a copyright notice and the crate has no git history here. Year drift would not be reportable in any case.
Proposed changes ◂

None.
