DFSG Assistant LLM REVIEW 0 blocker, 0 important, 0 minor

This is an LLM based review using a Debian Inference based workflow. It was not written by a member of the DFSG team and has not been checked by one. It is not a decision on the package: it may be wrong, and it may have missed things.

DFSG NEW review for rust-ruby-rbs version 0.3.0-1

Summary

  • Licensing is DFSG-compliant and debian/copyright is accurate: Yes
  • Packaging is of good quality: Yes
  • Issues: 0 blocker, 0 important, 0 minor
  • debian/watch: version 5
  • debian/copyright: machine-readable
  • Scan before the review: nothing found

Licensing

The whole tree is BSD-2-Clause: Cargo.toml declares license = "BSD-2-Clause", and no file in the tarball carries a copyright or licence notice of its own, let alone a conflicting one, so debian/copyright's single Files: * stanza is consistent with all of it. The full BSD-2-Clause text (required, since it is not in /usr/share/common-licenses) is reproduced, the holder and contact (Soutaro Matsumoto) match the upstream ruby/rbs project, and debian/* has its own stanza. No built files are shipped: the generated bindings are produced at build time from vendor/rbs/config.yml by the shipped build.rs. No non-free or unclear-provenance files found.

Packaging

A conventional debcargo-generated package: debhelper-compat 13 with dh-sequence-cargo, proper Build-Depends/Build-Depends-Arch split with <!nocheck> on the test-only crates, a correct single librust-ruby-rbs-dev binary with versioned Provides, Multi-Arch: same, autopkgtest controlled by debian/tests/control, DEP-12 upstream metadata, Vcs-* on debcargo-conf and Standards-Version 4.7.4 (Policy is 4.7.4.1). The rules override runs the crate's tests via dh_auto_test -- test --all, with no dev-dependencies needed since the crate has none. Nothing a sponsor would require changing.

Issues

None.

Verified ◂
  • Prescan: all 9 upstream files (build.rs, src/lib.rs, src/node/mod.rs, vendor/rbs/config.yml, README.md, Cargo.toml, Cargo.toml.orig, Cargo.lock, .cargo_vcs_info.json) were read or sampled; none carries a copyright, SPDX or licence notice, so the author check's 'every holder found is named' result is consistent with debian/copyright.
  • vendor/rbs/config.yml is the RBS project's AST node/enum description (all entries are RBS::AST::* with rbs_* C types), i.e. upstream data of the same project, covered by Files: *.
  • build.rs generates bindings.rs into OUT_DIR from vendor/rbs/config.yml at build time; src/node/mod.rs:1 only include!s that generated file, so no built or generated source is shipped without its generator and input (checked: build.rs, config.yml, src/).
  • README.md is the ruby/rbs repository README (readme = "../../README.md" in Cargo.toml.orig); Cargo.lock, Cargo.toml.orig and .cargo_vcs_info.json are cargo-generated metadata of the crate.
  • debian/copyright is DEP-5 compliant (canonical Format URL, valid fields, standalone BSD-2-Clause paragraph); the licence text matches BSD-2-Clause and is not in /usr/share/common-licenses, so reproducing it is required and done.
  • Files: debian/* is the later stanza and overrides Files: * for debian/; it names the Debian Rust Maintainers and Simon Quigley, matching debian/control and debian/changelog.
  • debian/copyright.debcargo.hint is a debcargo workflow leftover containing FIXME placeholders; it is not named by any debhelper-installed file list and is not installed into a binary package.
  • librust-ruby-rbs-sys-0.3+default-dev is not in the archive but is built by rust-ruby-rbs-sys 0.3.0+ds-1, which is in the NEW queue (apt-cache answer), so the Build-Depends/Depends is satisfiable.
  • Other dependency providers exist: librust-serde-yaml-0.9+default-dev is provided by librust-serde-yaml-dev 0.9.34-1+b1, librust-serde-1+derive-dev by librust-serde-dev 1.0.229-1, and dh-sequence-cargo by dh-cargo 34 (apt-cache answers).
  • debian/rules' override_dh_auto_test: dh_auto_test -- test --all does make dh-cargo run cargo test (read sub test in /usr/share/perl5/Debian/Debhelper/Buildsystem/cargo.pm); the crate declares no dev-dependencies, so no extra Build-Depends is needed.
  • dh_auto_test override is skipped under DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=nocheck at compat 13, matching the <!nocheck> markers on every Build-Depends-Arch entry.
  • No patches, no maintainer scripts, no man pages; debian/source/format is 3.0 (quilt); source tarball and debian tarball contents match the unpacked tree (.pc/ and debian/cargo-checksum.json ignored).
  • uscan found the packaged version as the newest upstream release (upstream 0.3.0, packaged 0.3.0).
