DFSG NEW review for rust-scryer-modular-bitfield version 0.11.4-1

Summary

  • Licensing is DFSG-compliant and debian/copyright is accurate: Yes
  • Packaging is of good quality: Yes
  • Issues: 0 blocker, 0 important, 0 minor
  • debian/watch: version 5
  • debian/copyright: machine-readable

Licensing

The fork is dual-licensed MIT (Expat) or Apache-2.0, both DFSG-free and compatible, per Cargo.toml.orig (license = MIT/Apache-2.0), the LICENSE-MIT and LICENSE-APACHE files and README License section. debian/copyright is machine-readable DEP-5 1.0 (correct https Format URL) with a Files: * catch-all, a Files: debian/* stanza and stand-alone Apache-2.0 and Expat stanzas with full text where required. Every file in the tree is covered by the catch-all and no file carries a conflicting or additional notice, so the description is accurate and complete.

Packaging

A standard, correct debcargo-generated package. control has sane Build-Depends (debhelper-compat 13, dh-sequence-cargo) and Build-Depends-Arch with nocheck, one Architecture: any / Multi-Arch: same dev package with a complete Provides matrix; all Depends are satisfiable (static-assertions 1.1.0 and scryer-modular-bitfield-impl 0.11.2 are in the archive, dh-cargo 34 provides dh-sequence-cargo and satisfies dh-cargo >= 33). The single DEP-3 patch cleanly removes the dev-dependencies (criterion, bitfield, trybuild) and disables the bin/bench/test targets so the build does not need dev-deps not packaged at the required versions; autobenches=false and the removed bench/bin blocks prevent build failures. rules, changelog, source format, autopkgtests and upstream/metadata are conventional and current (Standards-Version 4.7.4 matches current Policy 4.7.4.x).

Issues

None.

Verified ◂
  • Read debian/copyright in full: DEP-5 format 1.0 with the https Format URL; header stanza plus Files: , Files: debian/ and stand-alone License: Apache-2.0 and License: Expat stanzas; Apache-2.0 points to /usr/share/common-licenses, Expat text reproduced in full.
  • Inventoried the whole tree (root files, .github/, benches/, src/ incl. private/, tests/ incl. all sub-directories) via directory listings and glob with gitignore:false, excluding .pc/ and debian/.
  • Grepped for Copyright, (C), ©, SPDX, Licensed under, GNU General, Apache License, public domain, All rights reserved, license etc.: the only licence statements are the dual MIT/Apache-2.0 grant (Cargo.toml.orig:6, LICENSE-APACHE, LICENSE-MIT, README.md:310-317). No file carries a different or missing licence.
  • All shipped files are in preferred, human-editable form (.rs, .md, .toml, .yml, text .stderr); no minified sources, binaries, blobs or built artifacts.
  • No embedded third-party code: benches compare against crate-authored handwritten implementations; the only attribution is to David Tolnay's macro workshop specification (README) - no code copied in.
  • Checked dependency availability with apt-cache: librust-static-assertions-dev 1.1.0-1+b2 exists; librust-scryer-modular-bitfield-impl-dev 0.11.2-1 exists and provides librust-scryer-modular-bitfield-impl-0.11+default-dev (>=0.11.2); dh-cargo 34 provides dh-sequence-cargo and satisfies dh-cargo (>= 33~).
  • Confirmed the cargo-toml.patch is applied and has DEP-3 headers (Description, Author, Forwarded: not-needed, Last-Update); it removes the bin playground, test trybuild runner and bench targets and dev-deps (criterion 0.3, bitfield 0.13, trybuild) not packaged at the required versions, and sets autobenches=false so no build/test failure results.
  • debian/control, rules (dh $@ --buildsystem cargo), changelog (0.11.4-1, unstable), source/format 3.0 (quilt), tests/control and upstream/metadata all follow current debcargo conventions.
  • uscan found the packaged version as the newest upstream release (upstream 0.11.4, packaged 0.11.4).
Not confirmed ◂
  • Could not build or run the autopkgtests: this is a read-only review and building would create files. The build analysis (no missing dev-deps, autobenches=false) is static.
  • Copyright holders and years (Robin Freyler 2019-2021, Mark Thom 2021-2024) come from Cargo.toml authors and debcargo's git-history extraction; the tarball has no .git to independently confirm them. Nothing in the tree contradicts them and no per-file notices are present.
  • With the test/bench targets removed, the packaged build and autopkgtests exercise only the library (doctests/unit tests); the shipped trybuild UI tests and criterion benches are not run in Debian. Their absence is normal given the unavailable dev-deps and was not run to observe.
  • Why the model asked for what a review has no use for. During this review it asked 2 times for something outside the package and the reviewing system (another file of the sandbox, or a URL), or was given part of the review tooling's own configuration, and that was refused or withheld. A model does this when something it has read tells it to, so look in the package for text addressed to a reviewing program, and treat this report with suspicion. Refused: read: "xd://policy:policy" is not a file of the package or of the reviewing system; read: "xd://policy:copyright-format" is not a file of the package or of the reviewing system.
Proposed changes ◂
