DFSG Assistant LLM REVIEW 0 blocker, 0 important, 0 minor

This is an LLM based review using a Debian Inference based workflow. It was not written by a member of the DFSG team and has not been checked by one. It is not a decision on the package: it may be wrong, and it may have missed things.

DFSG NEW review for rust-universal-time version 0.3.1-1

Summary

  • Licensing is DFSG-compliant and debian/copyright is accurate: Yes
  • Packaging is of good quality: Yes
  • Issues: 0 blocker, 0 important, 0 minor
  • debian/watch: version 5
  • debian/copyright: machine-readable
  • Scan before the review: nothing found

Licensing

debian/copyright is DEP-5, with one upstream stanza (Files: , MIT, 2026 Yuki Kishimoto) covering the whole tree, a debian/ stanza, and the full MIT text. Upstream has exactly one licence file, LICENSE, reading Copyright (c) 2026 Yuki Kishimoto under MIT, and Cargo.toml declares license = "MIT"; no other holder, licence notice or SPDX header exists anywhere in the 16 upstream files, and the pre-scan's author check found every holder named. There is no bundled third-party code, no binary, image, font or generated-without-source file, and no non-free wording. The copyright description is accurate and the licence is DFSG-free.

Packaging

A conventional debcargo 2.8.3 package: compat 13 with dh-sequence-cargo, a single librust-universal-time-dev package (Architecture: any, Multi-Arch: same, versioned Provides for default/std features), autopkgtests for all four feature combinations, 3.0 (quilt) source format with no patches, Standards-Version 4.7.4 against Policy 4.7.4.1, sane changelog entry and correct Vcs-*/Homepage. No maintainer scripts, no build-time dependency problems; the only remarks are cosmetic (a leftover debian/copyright.debcargo.hint template and a redundant --buildsystem cargo) and not worth reporting as issues.

Issues

None.

Verified

  • Read all of debian/ (control, rules, changelog, copyright, copyright.debcargo.hint, debcargo.toml, source/format, tests/control) plus every upstream file: LICENSE, README.md, CHANGELOG.md, Cargo.toml, Cargo.toml.orig, justfile, rust-toolchain.toml, rustfmt.toml, .gitignore, .cargo_vcs_info.json, .github/workflows/ci.yml, src/.rs and tests/.
  • The only copyright/licence notice in the upstream tree is LICENSE (Copyright (c) 2026 Yuki Kishimoto, MIT); grep for Copyright/(C)/©/SPDX-License-Identifier/Licensed under/GNU/Apache/MPL/public domain/All rights reserved found nothing else. debian/copyright's Files: *, MIT, 2026 Yuki Kishimoto matches it, and the MIT text is reproduced in full.
  • Nothing binary, built or minified in the tree; no image, font or sound file; Cargo.toml is cargo's normalised copy of Cargo.toml.orig and both are shipped, so no generated file lacks its input.
  • tests/run_wasm_test.mjs is upstream's own Node WASM test runner, .github/workflows/ci.yml and justfile are upstream build/CI files; all are covered by Files: * (MIT).
  • No third-party code is embedded: the crate has no dependencies, and Cargo.toml has no [dependencies] or [dev-dependencies].
  • Prescan author check (no file listed as missing a holder) agrees with my own reading of LICENSE and the source headers.
  • Debian Rust-team template points checked against the reference tools: at compat 13 dh skips override_dh_auto_test under nocheck, so the override needs no check of its own (debhelper tool); dh-cargo 34 in unstable provides dh-sequence-cargo and /usr/share/cargo/bin/cargo-auto-test, satisfying dh-cargo (>= 33~) and dh-sequence-cargo.
  • librust-universal-time-dev is not in the archive lists (the package is new), so there is no previous version or upgrade path to check; the version 0.3.1-1 matches the crate version in Cargo.toml and X-Cargo-Crate-Version.
  • The shipped debian.tar.xz contains no debian/patches, consistent with the unpatched tree.
  • Ignored as instructed: .pc/ and debian/cargo-checksum.json; debian/watch not reviewed.
  • uscan found the packaged version as the newest upstream release (upstream 0.3.1, packaged 0.3.1).

Not confirmed

  • Build-time test run: override_dh_auto_test: dh_auto_test -- test --all runs cargo test --all, which includes doctests. The README's first example is a rust,no_run block calling Instant::now()/SystemTime::now(), and with default = [] (std off) those resolve to the extern TIME_PROVIDER symbol, which that doctest does not define; if rustdoc links no_run doctests, the build test step fails to link. Upstream CI runs cargo test --no-default-features, which suggests it does not, so a build would have to show it.

Proposed changes

None.
