DFSG Assistant LLM REVIEW 0 blocker, 1 important, 2 minor

This is an LLM based review using a Debian Inference based workflow. It was not written by a member of the DFSG team and has not been checked by one. It is not a decision on the package: it may be wrong, and it may have missed things.

DFSG NEW review for secsipidx version 2.0.0-1

Summary

  • Licensing is DFSG-compliant and debian/copyright is accurate: Yes
  • Packaging is of good quality: No
  • Issues: 0 blocker, 1 important, 2 minor
  • debian/watch: version 5
  • debian/copyright: machine-readable
  • Scan before the review: nothing found

Licensing

DFSG-compliant and accurately documented. debian/copyright is DEP-5 with Files: * under the Clear BSD licence (asipto.com), overridden for the file copied from Go's crypto/x509 (The Go Authors, BSD-3-Clause), the man page and debian/* (Victor Seva); both licence texts are reproduced in full, every file in the tree is matched by a stanza, there is no non-free wording anywhere, and the one generated file (csecsipid/libsecsipid.h) has its source in the package.

Packaging

Otherwise conventional, careful Go-team packaging: compat 13 with dh-golang, a symbols file, Multi-Arch, autopkgtest-pkg-go, tests gated on <!nocheck>, and the C library built and installed through upstream's Makefile. One upgrade regression must be fixed: libsecsipid2 still Replaces/Breaks libsecsipid1, a name that now only exists as libsecsipid1t64's versioned Provides, so installing 2.0.0 forces removal of libsecsipid1t64 and with it kamailio-secsipid-modules. Two smaller defects: the pkg-config file points at /usr/lib and declares version 1.0.0 for the 2.0.0 library, and two package descriptions contain garbled text.

Issues

important packaging 1. libsecsipid2 Breaks/Replaces libsecsipid1, which only exists as libsecsipid1t64's versioned Provides, so 2.0.0 forces removal of libsecsipid1t64 and kamailio-secsipid-modules ◂
  • Files: debian/control:58-62
  • Basis: checked, in the package or with a reference tool
  • Evidence: libsecsipid2 stanza: Replaces: libsecsipid1, / Breaks: libsecsipid1 (<< ${source:Version}),. apt-cache: "libsecsipid1 is a virtual package ... provided by ... libsecsipid1t64 1.3.2-4 (= 1.3.2-4)"; kamailio-secsipid-modules 6.1.5-1 has Depends: ..., libsecsipid1t64 (>= 1.3.1). Policy 7.5: a versioned Provides "will be considered when considering a dependency on or conflict with the virtual package name" and only an unversioned one "will not ... violate versioned Conflicts or Breaks".
  • Problem: The SONAME bump to libsecsipid.so.2 leaves no file path shared with libsecsipid1t64 (libsecsipid.so.1*), so no Replaces is needed; the Replaces on a virtual name has no effect anyway (Policy 7.6.1: replaced packages must be named by their real names). But the Breaks: libsecsipid1 (<< 2.0.0-1) matches libsecsipid1t64 through its Provides: libsecsipid1 (= 1.3.2-4), so the two packages cannot be installed together: an upgrade that pulls in libsecsipid2 (directly, or via libsecsipid-dev's Depends: libsecsipid2 (= ${binary:Version})) must remove libsecsipid1t64, and with it kamailio-secsipid-modules, which depends on it. That is an upgrade regression for every user of the Kamailio secsipid module, and it is not what a SONAME bump should do: the old library is supposed to stay installed for its reverse dependencies until they are rebuilt.
  • Fix: Drop Replaces: and Breaks: from the libsecsipid2 stanza; nothing overlaps with libsecsipid1t64 and the old library may stay installed alongside the new one. If the old library really must be forced out, Breaks libsecsipid1t64 (<< ...) explicitly and run the transition with the kamailio maintainers (rebuild kamailio-secsipid-modules against libsecsipid.so.2) instead of breaking it by accident.
minor packaging 2. libsecsipid-dev ships a pkg-config file whose libdir is /usr/lib and whose Version is 1.0.0, while the 2.0.0 library is installed in /usr/lib/ ◂
  • Files: csecsipid/secsipid-1.pc:1-9, debian/libsecsipid-dev.install:4
  • Basis: checked, in the package or with a reference tool
  • Evidence: prefix=/usr, libdir=${exec_prefix}/lib, includedir=${prefix}/include, Version: 1.0.0; debian/libsecsipid-dev.install:4 is usr/lib/pkgconfig/*.pc usr/lib/${DEB_HOST_MULTIARCH}/pkgconfig/, and lines 2-3 move libsecsipid.a and libsecsipid.so to usr/lib/${DEB_HOST_MULTIARCH}/. The header installed with it says SECSIPID_VERSION 0x2000000 (v2.0.0).
  • Problem: The .pc file advertises -L/usr/lib, where no part of this package is installed, instead of the multiarch directory the library is moved to; the metadata is inconsistent with what the -dev package ships. It also still says Version: 1.0.0 for a library whose API was just bumped to 2.0.0, so a consumer cannot express a requirement on the new API through pkg-config (pkg-config --atleast-version=2 secsipid-1 fails).
  • Fix: Make the installed .pc point at the real libdir, e.g. a small patch setting libdir=${prefix}/lib/${DEB_HOST_MULTIARCH} (or a sed in debian/rules), and ask upstream to raise Version (and consider the module name) together with the API version.
minor packaging 3. Package descriptions contain garbled text: "Building SIP identitysecsipidx" and 'headers ans static libs' ◂
  • Files: debian/control:41-42, debian/control:51, debian/control:56
  • Basis: checked, in the package or with a reference tool
  • Evidence: secsipidx: This package contains CLI tool and HTTP API server for checking or / Building SIP identitysecsipidx; libsecsipid-dev: Description: Secure SIP Identity Extensions - C headers files and This package contains headers ans static libs.
  • Problem: These are user-visible in the package manager and in the packages file: the sentence merges "SIP identity" with the program name, "Building" is capitalised mid-sentence, and "ans" is a typo. Small, but it is the text most users see of the package.
  • Fix: Rewrite both extended descriptions, e.g. This package contains the CLI tool and HTTP API server for checking or building SIP Identity headers, ... contains the C headers and static libraries, Description: ... - C development files.
Verified ◂
  • Read debian/copyright in full (DEP-5, correct Format: value) and every file of the tree: .gitignore, LICENSE, Makefile, Makefile.defs, README.md, go.mod, go.sum, main.go, main_test.go, secsipidx.1, .github/FUNDING.yml, .github/workflows/go.yml, .github/workflows/release.yaml, csecsipid/{Makefile,csecsipid.go,libsecsipid.h,secsipid-1.pc,secsipid.h}, secsipid/{.gitignore,cache.go,cache_redis.go,secsipid.go,secsipid_test.go,system_cas.go}. Licensing evidence was collected with a tree-wide grep for Copyright/(C)/©/SPDX-License-Identifier/Licensed under/Permission is hereby granted/GNU/Apache/MPL/public domain: notices exist only in LICENSE, README.md:341-347 and debian/copyright.
  • LICENSE is the Clear BSD licence of asipto.com (2019-2020); the Files: * stanza reproduces that text under BSD-3-Clause-Clear, which is DFSG-free and in main elsewhere (e.g. /usr/share/doc/libsvtav1enc4/copyright, /usr/share/doc/libopenblas0/copyright, /usr/share/doc/firmware-ath9k-htc/copyright). No non-commercial, no-modification, field-of-use or other non-free wording exists in the tree; a permissive notice whose text must be reproduced is reproduced in full, so no /usr/share/common-licenses pointer is involved and none is wrong.
  • secsipid/system_cas.go is the only file with foreign provenance: its header says /** Copied and pasted from go standard library: "crypto/x509" package!! **/. The overriding Files: secsipid/system_cas.go stanza names The Go Authors (2009) with BSD-3-Clause and gives that licence text in full, so the copied code is credited; the file's Clear BSD parts are compatible with it. No other copied or vendored code exists (the only imports are github.com/google/uuid, github.com/redis/go-redis/v9 and the test-only github.com/gomagedon/expectate; no vendor/ directory).
  • csecsipid/libsecsipid.h is a build product, not a missing source: it begins /* Code generated by cmd/cgo; DO NOT EDIT. */, is generated from csecsipid/csecsipid.go, and the build regenerates it in _build/src/github.com/asipto/secsipidx/csecsipid (make lib calls go build -buildmode=c-shared; its output header is the file that install-dev copies). The preferred form for modification is therefore in the package and the installed copy is the regenerated one; not a licensing or DFSG issue.
  • No other built or opaque files: no images, fonts, sounds, PDFs, archives or minified code; main_test.go and secsipid/secsipid_test.go embed no PEM certificates or keys, so there is no test data of unclear provenance.
  • debian/copyright coverage: Files: * reaches every path (DEP-5 * matches /), and Files: secsipid/system_cas.go, Files: secsipidx.1 and Files: debian/* override it exactly where needed (later stanzas win). No Files-Excluded is needed: nothing was removed from the tree. The secsipidx.1 stanza correctly names its author Victor Seva, who wrote it.
  • Packaging files all read: debian/control, rules, changelog, source/format (3.0 quilt), the three .install files, secsipidx.manpages, libsecsipid2.symbols, libsecsipid2.lintian-overrides, gbp.conf, salsa-ci.yml, upstream/metadata; the .debian.tar.xz contains exactly these and no debian/patches, and there are no maintainer scripts or *.maintscript files, so idempotence does not arise.
  • Build dependencies resolve: golang-github-redis-go-redis-dev 9.17.2 (the v9 API used in secsipid/cache_redis.go: ParseURL, Options fields, Get/Set/TxPipelined, redis.Nil), golang-github-google-uuid-dev 1.6.0, golang-github-gomagedon-expectate-dev 1.3.1 (test-only, correctly <!nocheck> since only dh_auto_test needs it) and dpkg-dev 1.23.11 all exist in the archive.
  • Built-Using: ${misc:Built-Using} is not an unset substvar: /usr/bin/dh_golang still generates misc:Built-Using for backward compatibility (in addition to misc:Static-Built-Using), so the field is filled for all three binaries.
  • Testsuite: autopkgtest-pkg-go needs no debian/tests/: autodep8's Go support (/usr/share/autodep8/support/go/detect matches golang-any in Build-Depends, generate emits Test-Command: /usr/bin/dh_golang_autopkgtest) supplies the test, and @builddeps@ installs the <!nocheck> test dependency, so no test setup is missing.
  • Standards-Version: 4.7.4 against Policy 4.7.4.1: current enough (first two components match). source/format is 3.0 (quilt); the changelog's 2.0.0-1 entry is well-formed and the version is a plausible new-upstream release.
  • The man page documents only options that exist: every -flag in secsipidx.1 is registered by registerFlags in main.go.
  • uscan found the packaged version as the newest upstream release (upstream 2.0.0, packaged 2.0.0).
Not confirmed ◂
  • I could not run dpkg/apt, so I did not observe how the libsecsipid2 Breaks against libsecsipid1t64 is resolved in practice (removal of libsecsipid1t64 and kamailio-secsipid-modules, or a refused/hheld upgrade); the relationship is a defect either way.
  • I did not build, so I did not check whether -L/usr/lib from the .pc file is harmless at link time on multiarch systems (the linker normally also searches the multiarch directory); the metadata is wrong regardless.
Proposed changes ◂

None.
